Social Impact World Community Rules

A Community Built on Trust, Generosity, and Shared Experience

Social Impact World is a place for practitioners to ask candid questions, share what they know, and support one another. These guidelines help us protect the kind of community we all want to be part of.

Help make the community better because you're in it

Social Impact World works because members are willing to share their experience, offer perspective, ask questions, and help one another navigate the realities of corporate impact work.

You don't need to have all the answers. Be thoughtful, be respectful, and contribute when you can.

What we expect from each other

Four principles guide how members interact across the Social Impact World community.

01

Respect

We show respect for differing opinions, value individual perspectives, and engage in constructive dialogue.

02

Collaboration

We foster a spirit of cooperation, encouraging members to work together, exchange ideas, and help one another move the work forward.

03

Integrity

We uphold high ethical standards, transparency, and honesty in our interactions with one another.

04

Inclusivity

We embrace diverse perspectives and strive to ensure that everyone in the community feels welcome and respected.

Contribute before you promote

Social Impact World takes a value-first approach to self-promotion within the community.

Before promoting your own work, event, content, or offering, we encourage you to contribute and support fellow members by answering questions, starting useful discussions, sharing your experience, or otherwise helping the community.

Members who don't follow this core rule run the risk of having promotional posts removed. This policy helps us maintain a collaborative environment and prevents the community from becoming an advertising space.

A few simple ways to be a good community member

You don't have to be active every day. When you do participate, keep these principles in mind.

01

Be helpful

Look for opportunities to help others. Make introductions, share experience, offer advice, answer questions, or point someone toward a useful resource.

02

Limit self-promotion

We want to avoid becoming a digital ad board. Some self-promotion is okay, but repeated promotional posting without meaningful participation may be removed.

03

Post in the right channel

Use the channel that best fits your conversation. Posts that clearly don't belong in a particular channel may be moved or removed to keep the community useful and easy to navigate.

And don't forget to have fun. You're part of a global group of people passionate about doing good in the world. We're here to support you, and we ask that you support others when possible.

Creating a safe and welcoming environment

Reporting

If you are being harassed by a member of our community, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact Social Impact World.

The admin team will respond to any complaint as promptly as we can. If you do not get a timely response, or if no admins are currently online, please put your personal safety and well-being first, and consider logging out and/or contacting Social Impact World.

This code of conduct applies to all community spaces, but if you are being harassed by a member of our community outside our spaces, we still want to know about it. We will take all good-faith reports of harassment by our members seriously. This includes harassment outside our spaces and harassment that took place at any point in time. Social Impact World reserves the right to exclude people from the community based on their past behavior, including behavior outside of our spaces and behavior towards people who are not in this community.

Social Impact World reserves the right to reject any report we believe to have been made in bad faith. This includes reports intended to silence legitimate criticism.

Consequences

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, community admins may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including removal from the community. At the discretion of the admins, or by request, one or more of the parties involved may request to discuss the violation and how to avoid similar situations in the future.

The goal is simple: create the kind of community you'd want to turn to when you need help

Be generous with what you know. Respect what others share. Help us keep the community useful for the people doing this work.
